After introducing the project to your class or STEM club you may wish to give your students a taste of the ethics behind research. Students could discuss the ethics behind medical studies and explore what ethical controls there are on scientists when conducting research. Once students understand what the project involves, they could prepare a short presentation to the ethics committee to whom they need to make the case for the experiment and it’s value. The ethics committee might include the Head, members of the senior leadership team, or board of governors, other teachers etc.
For resources, you may wish to use the first part of Lesson One and also Dr Rob’s blog on seeking approval from UCL ethic’s committee.
